Joe Smith pitched 3 innings for the victory and Jose Ramirez ripped a bases
loaded blast as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Houston Astros by a score
of 12 to 4 at Minute Maid Park.
The Houston fans didn't appreciate the big day Ramirez had. He emptied the
bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 1st inning and doubled in the 3rd
inning. Cleveland banged out 9 hits on the afternoon.
Corey Kluber(1-0) allowed 4 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory.
Smith recorded his 1st save. Justin Verlander(0-1) was tagged with the loss.
He couldn't find the strike zone and allowed 5 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.
Kluber was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd
when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running
tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange -
but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'

2/3 innings allowing 7 hits and 1 walk. New York (AL) finished with just 6

save. David Price(0-1) was the loser. He pitched 6 innings giving up 5 hits
and 4 walks.
Joe Girardi was asked about the performance of Severino, 'He had his good
stuff out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts
start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'
