Win:Samardzija(19-17) Loss:Richard(5-18)
Jeff Samardzija reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts at AT&T Park where the San
Francisco Giants beat the San Diego Padres 5 to 1.
Samardzija(19-17) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the San Diego
offense. He didn't give up much, just 6 hits and no walks in 9 innings. San
Francisco had a total of 9 hits for the game.
Clayton Richard(5-18) was the loser. When asked about his strikeout total for
the game, Samardzija offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to
see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately,
I kept them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught
without the 'W'.'

Louis banged out 9 hits on the afternoon.
Juan Nicasio(9-1) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.

about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered,
'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Craig Counsell, feels
right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the
short end of one of these!'
