Jon Lester dominated striking out 10 St. Louis batters as the Chicago (NL)
Cubs topped the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 5 to 4 at Wrigley
Field.
Lester(5-7) had a fairly solid outing. He surrendered 5 hits and 2 walks in 5
and 1/3 innings and allowed 2 gopher balls. St. Louis threatened in the 9th
but Chicago (NL) was able to put down the rally.
Lester got help from Wade Davis who was credited with his 48th save. Michael
Wacha(7-9) was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the Chicago
(NL) offense and allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.
'Everything felt great' Lester said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could
throw it by everybody today.'

Joey Votto blasted a homerun at Great American Bpk as the Cincinnati Reds beat
the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 5 to 2.
Sal Romano(8-18) gave a fine effort for Cincinnati. He went 6 innings
surrendering 5 hits and 5 walks. Cincinnati had 8 hits for the game and
Pittsburgh had 5.
Romano got relief help from Raisel Iglesias who gained credit for his 34th
save. Trevor Williams(10-12) was hit with the loss. He served up 4 homeruns
in his 5 and 2/3 innings.
Cincinnati now has a record of 72-77. Not able to get much going in recent
weeks, Pittsburgh is 2-8 of late and now has an overall record of 70-79,
worst in the division.

First baseman Carlos Santana went deep and had 4 RBI and Trevor Bauer reeled
off a total of 18 strikeouts at Progressive Field where the phenomenal
Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 9 to 2.
Santana made sure the Cleveland fans enjoyed themselves. He ripped a
base-knock scoring a run in the 4th inning, stroked a single in the 6th
inning and belted a three-run homer in the 8th inning. Cleveland rapped out
11 hits for the afternoon.
Bauer(6-4) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. Jason
Hammel(3-7) ended up with the loss. The Cleveland fans were thrilled by the
performance put forth by Bauer, but it was clearly his strikeouts that they
enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10 strikeouts the fans showed him their
appreciation with a loud cheer.' Terry Francona said following the game.
