23,276 fans watched an exciting game at Wrigley Field. The potent St. Louis
Cardinals topped the Chicago (NL) Cubs by the slimmest of margins, 2 to
1.
St. Louis had 2 runs cross the plate in the top of the 7th inning. The
highlight belonged to Randal Grichuk who silenced the crowd when he clubbed a
two-run home run. Chicago (NL) threatened in the 9th but their rally came up
short.
Matt Bowman(5-1) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Bowman got
relief help from Trevor Rosenthal who gained credit for his 28th save.
Hector Rondon(6-4) ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 2 and 1/3
innings and surrendered 2 hits and 2 walks.
Joe Maddon was in a sour mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the press
box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.'

R.A. Dickey allowed Brian Snitker to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Matt Kemp slammed a homerun and had 5 RBI as the Atlanta Braves ballclub
embarrassed the New York (NL) Mets by the count of 19 to 2.
Kemp made sure the Atlanta fans enjoyed themselves. He doubled scoring two
baserunners in the 1st inning, laced a one-base hit in the 4th inning and
launched a three-run homer in the 8th inning. Atlanta lit up the scoreboard
in the 4th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 6 hits and the 8th inning
with 4 runs on 4 hits. Atlanta simply wore out the New York (NL) pitching
staff, scoring in 6 different innings.
The win went to Dickey(6-9) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Robert
Gsellman(6-16) took the loss. He allowed 6 hits and 3 walks in 2 and 1/3
innings.

Gerrit Cole retired 10 batters on strikeouts at Great American Bpk as the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds 6 to 0.
Cole(15-20) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He surrendered only 6
hits and 3 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. Pittsburgh rapped out 7 hits for the
night.
Luis Castillo(20-9) was given the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his
5 innings of work. Cole was humble when questioned about his performance,
'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches tonight. But, I had great
support behind me and I just threw what was called. That was an extremely
well called game!'
