In a tight game it was the Chicago (NL) Cubs 6, the Milwaukee Brewers 4 at
Wrigley Field.
Jake Arrieta(8-10) pitched okay, well enough for the win. He surrendered 8
hits and no walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. Although they lost, Milwaukee did
out-hit Chicago (NL) 10 to 6.
Wade Davis earned his 46th save. Chase Anderson(13-12) was the loser. 'I
just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Arrieta, 'I got burned on
a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'

Carlos Santana had 3 base hits and 4 RBI and Corey Kluber allowed 2 hits while
blanking Baltimore as the Baltimore Orioles were badly beaten by the
indomitable Cleveland Indians, 11 to 0.
Kluber(22-4) was on top of his game. He allowed only 2 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings. Kluber recorded 17 strikeouts. Cleveland rapped out 14 hits for
the afternoon.
Kevin Gausman(12-19) was charged with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in
his 3 and 1/3 innings. Buck Showalter was upset after the game. 'I don't
like to complain but did you see that umpires strike zone?', he said. 'Maybe
they ought to start calling the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule
book.'

Daniel Mengden completed the game without help from the bullpen at Oakland
Coliseum as the Oakland Athletics beat the Houston Astros by the count of 3
to 2.
Oakland scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when they came up with 3
base hits. Matt Olson started the inning off right when he ripped a
base-hit. After an out was recorded, Bruce Maxwell came to bat and doubled
which scored a run. Matt Chapman got his chance to keep things going, but he
went down on strikes. Jaycob Brugman came up and he slapped a single scoring
the final run of the inning. Houston threatened in the 9th but Oakland was
able to put down the rally.
Mengden(9-19) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Brad Peacock(15-8)
was hit with the loss. He pitched 6 innings giving up 4 hits and 4
walks.
'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said A.J. Hinch 'But we have
to get over it and get ready for the next game.'

Yadier Molina had 3 base hits and 4 RBI as the very strong St. Louis Cardinals
topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 9 to 2 at Busch
Stadium.
Pittsburgh found themselves trailing quickly as the St. Louis bats came
through in the first inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After an
out was recorded, Tommy Pham kicked off the action when he delivered a
base-hit. Pham was running on the next pitch and he stole second. St. Louis
continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Paul Dejong
stepped in and he hit a sacrifice fly bringing in a run. Dexter Fowler
stepped into the box and tripled. Molina added to the rally and stroked a
single scoring the final run of the inning. St. Louis finished with 13 hits
while Pittsburgh ended up with 8.
Michael Wacha(7-8) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 7 and 2/3
innings. Jameson Taillon(12-7) was the losing pitcher. St. Louis continued
on their recent roll, their winning streak now reaching 6 games and counting.
'Everything seems to be going right for us' said Mike Matheny. 'I've got the
easiest job in the league right now!'
