First baseman Eric Thames slammed 2 homeruns as the Milwaukee Brewers bested
the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 0 at Miller Park.
Milwaukee promptly took the lead in their half of the first plating an
isolated run. That was all the offense they were to need. Neither team
managed to score after the 4th inning.
The victory went to Brent Suter(8-6) who went 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Suter got help from Jacob Barnes who earned his 2nd save. Ivan
Nova(6-12) was the loser. He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.

Christian Yelich had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Marlins Park as the Miami Marlins
beat the hapless San Francisco Giants 6 to 1.
Miami took the lead for good in the 2nd inning scoring one runner. After two
were out Justin Bour hit a bases-empty home run. Miami finished with 10 hits
in the victory.
The winning pitcher was Justin Nicolino(3-7) who allowed 1 run in 5 and 2/3
innings. Madison Bumgarner(7-18) was hit with the loss. The winning ways
continue for Miami. They now have a record of 8-2 in recent days. San
Francisco continued their losing ways and their record is now 42-80, worst in
the division. They are 2-8 in their last ten games.

At Oakland Coliseum the Oakland Athletics easily handled the Kansas City
Royals by the score of 7 to 3.
Khris Davis enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He lined a one-base hit in the
2nd inning and lofted a three-run bomb in the 5th inning. Both teams ended
up with 13 hits on the afternoon.
The victory was credited to Andrew Triggs(11-6) who went 6 innings, allowing 3
runs. Triggs got help from Chris Hatcher who was credited with his 4th save.
Jason Hammel(2-5) was charged with the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 7 hits in
4 innings.

In a dramatic ending, the San Diego Padres staged a comeback win over the
Philadelphia Phillies by the count of 3 to 2.
San Diego came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2
base hits. Wil Myers got things going when he reached on an error. After an
out was recorded, Yangervis Solarte came to bat and was hit by a pitch.
Hunter Renfroe struck out, unable to help the rally. Cory Spangenberg
stepped in and he doubled knocking in a run. Austin Hedges came up to bat
and doubled making San Diego the winners and sending the 17,208 fans home
happy. San Diego rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon.
Jose Torres(1-6) was the winner allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Hector
Neris(4-5) was given the loss in relief. 'Now there is a lesson in
perseverance for you,' Spangenberg noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there
for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades!
And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
