The Oakland Athletics were certainly pleased to stop the bleeding as their 7
game losing streak was finally halted and and the New York (NL) Mets locked
up in an exciting one-run game at Citi Field. The final score was the
Oakland Athletics 3, the New York (NL) Mets 2.
New York (NL) was unable to recover after Oakland went ahead in the 6th inning
plating an isolated run on 2 hits. New York (NL) had a chance in the 9th but
they came up short.
Sean Manaea(6-9) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Manaea
got relief help from Santiago Casilla who gained credit for his 8th save.
The loss was charged to Zack Wheeler(6-11).

Right fielder Aaron Altherr cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the
Philadelphia Phillies outscored the Milwaukee Brewers 10 to 3.
Altherr punished Milwaukee with his bat. He bombed a two-run dinger in the
1st inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 7th inning and doubled
bringing home two baserunners in the 8th inning. Philadelphia had 12 hits
for the night while Milwaukee had 6.
Hector Neris(4-3) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Brent Suter(6-5) was the loser. With this win, Philadelphia has a
34-61 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With the loss, the Milwaukee
ballclub's record is 53-46.

beat the woeful San Francisco Giants by the count of 9 to 3.

Adeiny Hechavarria left the yard and had 2 RBI at Tropicana Field where the
Tampa Bay Rays beat the Texas Rangers by the score of 3 to 1.
Tampa Bay scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. The crucial at-bat
was provided by Hechavarria who electrified Tropicana Field when he smashed a
two-run homer. Texas had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Jake Faria(12-8) got the win allowing no runs in 5 innings. Faria was helped
out by Alex Colome who recorded his 28th save. Austin Bibens-Dirkx(2-11)
took the loss.
Jeff Bannister was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
