One run was the difference at Wrigley Field as the Chicago (NL) Cubs defeated
the Pittsburgh Pirates in 13 innings 5 to 4.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Finally, Chicago (NL) pulled
the game out in the 13th inning. Kris Bryant doubled. Anthony Rizzo came to
the plate and drew a walk. Ben Zobrist then drew a walk to load the bases.
Kyle Schwarber struck out, unable to help the rally. Willson Contreras
stepped into the box and slapped a single giving Chicago (NL) the win much to
the delight of the home town crowd. Chicago (NL) had a total of 9 hits for
the game.
Koji Uehara(3-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Joaquin
Benoit(4-4) was the loser in relief. Wth the win Chicago (NL) now has a

Luis Castillo dominated striking out 10 Arizona batters as the Cincinnati Reds
bested the Arizona Diamondbacks 4 to 3 at Chase Field.
Castillo(13-5) pitched well for Cincinnati in their victory. He went 7
innings and surrended up 7 hits and 1 walk. Arizona tried unsuccessfully to
come back in the 9th.
Castillo was helped out by Raisel Iglesias who recorded his 23rd save. Robbie
Ray(7-7) was the losing pitcher. Castillo was pleased with his performance.
He noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches. Just as important, my
location was right on.'

Danny Salazar racked up an impressive total of 12 strikeouts as the Cleveland
Indians outscored the woeful Detroit Tigers 4 to 2.
Salazar(5-5) pitched a solid game. He surrendered only 5 hits and 4 walks in
8 innings improving his ERA from 4.67 to 4.42. Cleveland rapped out 7 hits
for the night.
Cody Allen recorded his 26th save. The loss was charged to Buck Farmer(2-9).
Terry Francona was asked about the performance of Salazar, 'He had his good
stuff out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts
start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'

Carlos Rodon struck out 10 batters as the Chicago (AL) White Sox defeated the
Colorado Rockies in 11 innings 5 to 3 at Coors Field.
The score was tied at 3 after nine. Chicago (AL) came out on top in the 11th
inning. Avisail Garcia led off the inning for Chicago (AL) when he singled.
After an out was recorded, Tim Anderson stepped up to the plate and he ripped
a one-base hit. Omar Narvaez then drew a walk to load the bases. Alen
Hanson was the next batter, but he struck out. Matt Davidson stepped into
the box and laced a base-hit scoring a run. Scott Oberg then uncorked a wild
one that found its way to the backstop scoring the final run of the inning.
Chicago (AL) had 12 hits for the game and Colorado had 8.
David Holmberg(1-1) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
