Rick Porcello mowed down 11 Chicago (AL) batters as the seemingly unstoppable
Boston Red Sox defeated the Chicago (AL) White Sox 7 to 0 at Guaranteed Rate

Porcello(2-3) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Chicago
(AL) hitters. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk in
9 innings. Boston rapped out 9 hits for the night.
Mike Pelfrey(2-4) suffered the loss. Rick Renteria lamented, 'Porcello was
really aggressive tonight. He kept coming after our hitters. Heck, why not.
he kept sitting our guys down one after another - like so many bowling pins!'

Carlos Santana slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI at Progressive Field as the
Cleveland Indians came back dramatically to top the Oakland Athletics by the
score of 8 to 7.
Cleveland erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
plating 3 runs on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Michael Brantley
jump-started the rally as he drew a walk. Edwin Encarnacion came next and he
drew a walk. One out later, Jose Ramirez then ripped a base-knock scoring a
run. Jason Kipnis followed and he reached on an error. Lonnie Chisenhall
came up to bat and doubled giving Cleveland the win much to the delight of
the home town crowd. Cleveland managed 12 hits in their victory.
The victory was credited to Joe Smith(3-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Blake Treinen(1-5) was given the loss in relief. He was unable to
retire a batter and surrendered 2 hits and no walks.
'Wow, that was fun!', Smith said following the game. 'Once in a while you
play a game that reminds you just why you got into this business to begin
with!'

In a tight game it was the Seattle Mariners 6, the Colorado Rockies 4 at Coors
Field.
David Phelps(3-3) did a nice job in relief and was credited with the win. He
allowed only 1 hit and no walks in 1 inning. Colorado was out-hit by
Seattle, 10 hits to 7.
Phelps got relief help from Edwin Diaz who gained credit for his 15th save.
Greg Holland(2-3) took the loss in relief.
'After the stretch we have been through lately, this victory is especially
sweet' offered Scott Servais. Now, we just have to make this the norm - not
the exception!'
