The Oakland Athletics nipped the Boston Red Sox 4 to 3 at Oakland Coliseum in
a hard fought contest.
Andrew Triggs(6-1) pitched a fine game. He went 8 innings surrendering 6 hits
and 2 walks. Boston had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up
short.
Triggs got help from Blake Treinen who was credited with his 2nd save. Matt
Barnes(2-1) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 1 hit in 1/3
of an inning.

Center fielder Andrew McCutchen had 2 base hits and 3 RBI at PNC Park as the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8 to 0.
Pittsburgh scored all of the necessary runs in the 1st inning when they
blasted Philadelphia for 8 runs on 5 hits. That early run support was all
that Chad Kuhl(2-3) required. After the 1st inning, neither team was able to
score.
Ben Lively(1-6) absorbed the loss. He allowed 8 runs and 4 hits in 2/3 of an
inning. With this win, Pittsburgh has a 18-25 record. They have been 4-6
lately. Philadelphia can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now
they have a miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.

Cole Hamels went the distance at Comerica Park as the Texas Rangers belted the
Detroit Tigers by the count of 14 to 2.
Adrian Beltre had a big evening at the plate. He doubled in the 3rd inning,
blasted a two-run home run in the 6th inning and doubled scoring a run in the
8th inning. Texas dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different
innings.
Hamels(6-3) allowed 2 runs on the game. Buck Farmer(1-3) took the loss. The
Texas ballclub's record now stands at 24-20. With the loss, Detroit has a
record of 3-7 lately, 19-24 overall.

Alex Wood had an impressive outing as the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers defeated the
Miami Marlins by a score of 3 to 1 at Dodger Stadium.
Los Angeles(NL) plated all the runs they needed in the 7th inning with 3 runs
on 3 base hits. Curtis Granderson led off and started the rally when he
delivered a single. Chase Utley was next and he drew a walk. Yasiel Puig
then rifled a three-run blast. The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th
inning.
Wood(6-3) was the winner allowing no runs in 8 innings. Wood got relief help
from Kenley Jansen who gained credit for his 16th save. Odrisamer
Despaigne(2-7) was given the loss. He gave up 3 runs and 5 hits in 6 and 1/3
