Max Scherzer struck out 18 batters as the Washington Nationals topped the
Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 4 to 0 at PNC Park.
Scherzer(8-1) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Pittsburgh offense.
He surrendered only 4 hits and no walks in 9 innings. Washington rapped out
13 hits for the afternoon.
Gerrit Cole(3-6) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 6 innings giving up 8
hits and 3 walks. 'Scherzer pitched a gem of a game', Clint Hurdle recounted.
'He kept our batters off balance the entire game.'

Right fielder Hunter Renfroe smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at PETCO Park as
the San Diego Padres beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6 to 3.
Renfroe helped send the fans home happy. He blasted a two-run home run in the
4th inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 6th
inning and doubled in the 8th inning. San Diego managed 7 hits in their
victory.
The victory went to Phil Maton(1-3) who went 3 innings, allowing no runs.
Maton got relief help from Brad Hand who gained credit for his 12th save.
Chase Anderson(3-4) suffered the loss. He served up 4 gopher balls in 5 and
1/3 innings.
Renfroe said, 'It was just all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate
today. You've got to take advantage of mistakes when you can. A couple
pitches were definitely up a little bit - right in my zone.'

The Philadelphia Phillies got by the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park. The
final score was 8 to 6.
Philadelphia wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they
tallied 2 runs on 3 hits. The key at-bat was by Rhys Hoskins who quieted the
crowd when he smashed a two-run homer. For the game Philadelphia out-hit
Texas 15 to 8.
Aaron Nola(3-5) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.
Hector Neris was credited with his 6th save. Martin Perez(4-1) took the
