Sean Newcomb retired 16 batters on strikeouts and left fielder Matt Kemp
lofted one into the 'cheap seats' as the Atlanta Braves defeated the New York
(NL) Mets by the score of 5 to 1 at SunTrust Park.
Newcomb(2-1) escaped virtually unscathed against the New York (NL) hitters.
He gave up just 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.07 to
2.58. Atlanta totaled 12 hits on the night.
Zack Wheeler(1-3) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 3 runs and 7 hits in
4 innings. 'Everything felt great' Newcomb said. 'I had a good fastball, I
felt I could throw it by everybody tonight.'

First baseman Mitch Moreland cracked 2 homeruns at Fenway Park where the
Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 4 to 1.
Boston had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning when they
had 3 base hits. They would prove to be the difference in the contest.
Eduardo Rodriguez(4-0) was helped out by Craig Kimbrel who pitched a perfect
ninth and recorded his 13th save.
Kevin Gausman(2-3) was given the loss. He surrendered only 3 runs and 3 hits
in 5 and 1/3 innings. This win by Boston continues their recent hot streak.

Suarez enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He slapped a base-hit in the 2nd

Michael Brantley hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Cleveland Indians beat the
Detroit Tigers by a score of 5 to 4.
Cleveland scored the deciding run in the top of the 9th inning. Jason Kipnis
drew a walk. Bradley Zimmer came next and he drew a walk. Yan Gomes then
drew a walk to load the bases. Two outs later Alex Wilson came to bat and
uncorked a wild one that found its way to the backstop scoring the run.
Cleveland managed 8 hits in their victory.
The win went to Andrew Miller(2-0) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning.
Zach McAllister was credited with his 1st save. Drew Verhagen(1-1) was
charged with the loss in relief.
