At Minute Maid Park the Oakland Athletics easily handled the Houston Astros by
the score of 7 to 3.
Oakland tallied 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning when they came up with 3
base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Bruce Maxwell who deflated
the mood of the partisan fans when he lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run. Oakland totaled 10 hits on the afternoon.
Sean Manaea(2-1) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory.
Santiago Casilla gained credit for his 2nd save. Justin Verlander(4-2) was
the loser. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 7 innings of work.

Adalberto Mejia(4-0) and Sam Gaviglio(0-3) dueled it out with Mejia and the
Minnesota Twins coming out on top of the Kansas City Royals by the score of 1
to 0.
Minnesota won the game with a run in the 8th inning. After an out was
recorded, Jorge Polanco lined a one-base hit. Granite swiped second base.
Mike Minor then let one get away for a wild pitch. Jason Castro was the next
batter, but he struck out. Byron Buxton stepped into the box and slapped a
base-hit scoring the run. The Kansas City bats were silent in the bottom of
the 9th.
Mejia got help from Matt Belisle who earned his 5th save.

Aaron Altherr homered and had 4 RBI at Dodger Stadium as the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers by the count of 7 to 6.
The game was won by Philadelphia with a run in the 9th inning. Nick Williams
doubled. Two outs later Altherr came to bat and doubled scoring the run.
Philadelphia had 10 hits for the afternoon.
Edubray Ramos(1-0) went 3 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Hector Neris
preserved the game for Ramos, recording his his 3rd save. Tony Watson(0-2)
was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and surrendered
1 hit and no walks.
