James Paxton struck out 12 batters as the Seattle Mariners defeated the
Cleveland Indians by the score of 3 to 2 at Progressive Field.
Paxton(3-1) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Cleveland
hitters. He didn't give up much, just 5 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings
lowering his ERA to 3.35. Seattle had 9 hits for the afternoon.
Paxton got help from Edwin Diaz who was credited with his 7th save. The loss
was charged to Trevor Bauer(0-1). He was touched for 7 hits and 3 walks in 4
innings.
'I had my good stuff today.' Paxton said. 'As the game went along I started to
get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'

Michael Ynoa closed it out for Chicago (AL) and Yoan Moncada hit a homerun and
had 2 RBI as the Chicago (AL) White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers by a
score of 9 to 6 at Comerica Park.
Detroit found themselves trailing quickly as the Chicago (AL) bats came
through in the first inning when they came up with 3 runs on 3 hits. The big
moment was provided by Moncada who helped quiet the crowd when he clubbed a
two-run home run. Carlos Rodon(2-2) was helped out by Ynoa who pitched a
perfect ninth and recorded his 1st save.
Jordan Zimmermann(0-3) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 5 runs and 9

streaking St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds by the count of 8 to

In the bottom of the 5th inning St. Louis scored 4 runs with the help of 4
hits. The critical plate appearance was by Pham who brought a roar from the
partisan Busch Stadium fans when he lined a one-base hit which was good for
two runs. St. Louis had 13 hits for the afternoon while Cincinnati had 9.
The win was credited to John Brebbia(1-0) who went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing
no runs. Sal Romano(0-4) was the loser. He was unable to control the St.
