At Wrigley Field, the Chicago (NL) faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel. Mike Montgomery(2-1) finally bested his Milwaukee
counterpart, Chase Anderson(2-2), by the score of 3 to 1.
Montgomery had a strong outing. He didn't give up much, just 3 hits and 3
walks in 8 innings lowering his ERA from 3.38 to 2.81. Neither team managed
to score after the 4th inning.
Montgomery was helped out by Wade Davis who recorded his 4th save. Anderson
absorbed the loss. He gave up 3 runs and 4 hits in 6 innings.

In a good matchup it was the Oakland Athletics 5, the Texas Rangers 3 at
Oakland Coliseum.
Sean Manaea(1-1) gave a fine effort for Oakland. He went 7 and 1/3 innings
and surrended up 8 hits and 2 walks. Texas tried unsuccessfully to come back
in the 9th.
Manaea got help from Santiago Casilla who earned his 1st save. Andrew
Cashner(0-2) took the loss. He got hammered, allowing 8 hits and 6 walks in
5 and 2/3 innings.
Jeff Bannister was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'

Right fielder Mitch Haniger hit a homerun and had 4 RBI and James Paxton was
able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as the
Seattle Mariners beat the Miami Marlins by a score of 9 to 3.
Haniger helped send the fans home happy. He ripped a one-base hit resulting
in a run in the 2nd inning, laced a base-knock in the 4th inning and lost the
ball over the fence for three runs in the 5th inning. Seattle managed 17
hits in their victory.
The win went to Paxton(2-0) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Odrisamer
Despaigne(1-2) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 9 hits in
4 innings.

Yadier Molina slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals
topped the Pittsburgh Pirates in 10 innings by a score of 5 to 4 at Busch
Stadium.
Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, St. Louis
prevailed in the 10th inning. After two outs Molina smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly' making St. Louis the winners and sending the 43,138 fans home
happy. St. Louis had a total of 10 hits for the game.
Trevor Rosenthal(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. The losing
pitcher was Wade Leblanc(0-1) in relief. He pitched 2 and 1/3 innings giving
up 4 hits and no walks.
