Homeruns- T.Turner(1st)
Max Scherzer reeled off a total of 11 strikeouts as the Washington Nationals
defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 1 to 0 at Citizens Bank
Park.
Scherzer(2-0) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Philadelphia batters. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 4 hits and
no walks in 7 and 1/3 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.32 to 2.30.
Philadelphia proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
Sean Doolittle recorded the save, his 1st. The losing pitcher was Mark
Leiter(0-1). He allowed 6 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
'I had my good stuff today.' Scherzer said. 'As the game went along I started
to get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'
