In the bottom of the 2nd inning California scored 6 runs. That scoring would be all that was needed. California totaled 9 hits on the afternoon. Witt(6-7) allowed 5 runs on the game. The loss was charged to Joel Davis(2-3). It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work. Dravecky(3-12) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the San Francisco batters. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 1 hit and no walks in 9 innings. The left-handed Dravecky lost his chance for a no-hitter when Mike Woodard singled with two outs in the 6th inning. San Diego had 13 hits for the afternoon. Dave Lapoint(4-2) ended up with the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 6 innings and saw his ERA jump from 2.70 to 3.22. Dravecky was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked. My arm felt great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three innings. I only hope that I can do it again next time out!' Gwynn was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at their team's expense. He delivered a solo blast in the 3rd inning and slapped a single which brought home a run in the 7th inning.
