Graig Nettles slammed a homerun as the San Diego Padres beat the San Francisco
Giants by a score of 7 to 5.
San Diego had the winning rally in the 8th inning when they came up with 5
runs on 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Tony Gwynn who silenced the
stadium when he delivered a single bringing home two baserunners. San
Francisco out-hit San Diego 13 to 10, but San Diego ended up with more runs.
Craig Lefferts(1-1) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Rich Gossage
recorded his 14th save. Mark Davis(4-2) ended up with the loss in relief.

Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago (NL) Cubs 7 to 6.
Porter had a big day against Chicago (NL). He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'
in the 4th inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 8th inning. Chicago (NL)
made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs
across.
The win was credited to Jeff Lahti(4-1) who went 2/3 of an inning allowing no
runs. Bill Campbell earned the save, his 1st. Lee Smith(2-3) absorbed the
loss in relief.
'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Jim Frey 'But we have
to get over it and get ready for the next game.'
