Pat Clements(3-1) was the winner as California Angels shutout the Chicago (AL)
White Sox by a 1 to 0 score at Anaheim Stadium.
The deciding run was scored by California in the bottom of the 8th. Bob Boone
reached on an error. Two outs later Rod Carew came to bat and laced a
one-base hit scoring the run. Chicago (AL) had a chance in the 9th but they
came up short.
Clements got help from Stew Cliburn who was credited with his 2nd save.
Richard Dotson(4-4) ended up with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he
did not allow an earned run in his 8 innings of work.

One run was the difference at The Kingdome as the Kansas City Royals defeated
the Seattle Mariners 4 to 3.
Buddy Black(6-5) contributed a pedestrian performance to earn the win. He
allowed 3 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings. Seattle had a chance to come back
in the 9th but they came up short.
Black got relief help from Dan Quisenberry who gained credit for his 9th save.
Bill Swift(1-7) was the losing pitcher. Dick Howser was beaming after the
game, 'Not only were we making good contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed
to have 'eyes'! I just love winning these tight ones! It was just our evening
- no doubt about it!'

Bob McClure delivered 8 solid innings as the Milwaukee Brewers outscored the
Baltimore Orioles 5 to 3.
McClure(3-6) was solid in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just
3 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. Milwaukee had just 5 hits for the night.
McClure was helped out by Bob Gibson who recorded his 1st save. Storm
Davis(5-4) was the loser. He surrendered 4 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 1/3

Gary Gaetti had 4 hits and 5 RBI as the Minnesota Twins crushed the Texas
Rangers 20 to 2.
Gaetti provided much of the offense. He doubled which was good for two runs
in the 3rd inning, stroked a base-hit in the 5th inning, laced a single in
the 6th inning and doubled scoring two baserunners in the 8th inning.
Minnesota lit up the scoreboard in the 3rd inning which saw them score 6 runs
on 6 hits and the 9th inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 4 hits. For the
game Minnesota out-hit Texas 24 to 8.
Bert Blyleven(11-6) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 8 and 2/3
innings. Dickie Noles(4-7) suffered the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 8
hits and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
Gaetti said, 'It was just all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate
tonight. You've got to take advantage of mistakes when you can. A couple
pitches were definitely up a little bit - right in my zone.'
