Shortstop Glenn Hoffman cracked a homer as the Boston Red Sox defeated the
Milwaukee Brewers by a score of 6 to 4 at Fenway Park.
Boston wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning plating one
baserunner. The Milwaukee offense proved no trouble in the 9th.
Bruce Hurst(1-2) allowed 4 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Hurst was helped out by Mark Clear who recorded his 2nd save. Moose
Haas(2-10) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 8 hits and 3 walks in 8
innings.

California Angels won a thriller over the Texas Rangers in, 3 to 2.
The deciding run was scored by California in the bottom of the 9th. Juan
Beniquez clubbed a solo home run giving California the win and sending the
home town fans into a frenzy. California managed only 5 hits on the night.
Stew Cliburn(5-6) went 4 innings allowing no runs for the win. Chris
Welsh(5-4) was given the loss in relief. California now has a record of
29-28. With the loss Texas now has a record of 30-28.

Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York (NL) Mets 8 to 7.
Samuel enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He smashed a two-run homer in the
1st inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 3rd inning, singled in the 7th
inning and doubled resulting in a run in the 8th inning. Philadelphia had 12
hits for the night.
Larry Andersen(3-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Andersen got
relief help from Kent Tekulve who gained credit for his 8th save. Roger
