Chicago (AL) came up with 8 runs in the 5th inning with the help of 6 hits.
The critical plate appearance was by Jerry Hairston who quieted the crowd
when he launched a three-run homer. Seattle had a chance to come back in the
9th but they came up short.
Britt Burns(7-6) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 8 innings. Bob
James recorded his 15th save. Matt Young(6-6) was given the loss. He was
knocked around by Chicago (AL), allowing 10 hits and 4 walks in 4 innings.

Chris Codiroli pitched 7 strong innings as the Oakland Athletics topped the
Kansas City Royals by a score of 2 to 0 at Oakland Co Stadium.
Kansas City was unable to climb back into it after Oakland went ahead for good
in the 4th inning plating one baserunner. After two outs Dave Kingman
clubbed a solo home run. Jay Howell was perfect in relief and gained credit
for his 6th save.
The winning pitcher was Codiroli(6-4) who allowed no runs in 7 innings. Danny
Jackson(3-6) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 2 runs and 5 hits in 8

Candelaria got help from Sanchez who was credited with his 1st save. Mike
