Ken Dixon whitewashed Detroit on 2 hits at Tiger Stadium where the Baltimore
Orioles beat the slumping Detroit Tigers 3 to 0.
Dixon(9-3) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Detroit
hitters. He allowed only 2 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA
from 3.53 to 3.22. Baltimore had a total of 10 hits for the game.
Frank Tanana(8-8) was hit with the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 6
and 2/3 innings. Dixon was obviously very pleased with his performance in
the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those games where everything
worked. My arm felt great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three
innings. I only hope that I can do it again next time out!'

Tom Seaver had an impressive outing as the Chicago (AL) White Sox defeated the
Seattle Mariners by a score of 1 to 0 at The Kingdome.
Seaver(5-6) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He didn't give up much,
just 2 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. Seattle could do no damage in the
bottom of the 9th.
Seaver was helped out by Bob James who recorded his 14th save. Mike
Moore(6-9) was given the loss. He gave up 1 run and 5 hits in 9 innings.

Right fielder Darryl Motley had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Kansas City
Royals outscored the Oakland Athletics 7 to 4.
Kansas City came up with 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning when they came up
with 3 base hits. The biggest moment was provided by Lonnie Smith who helped
quiet the crowd when he doubled plating two runs. Kansas City finished with
8 hits in the victory.
The win went to Charlie Leibrandt(3-4) who allowed 4 runs in 7 innings.
Leibrandt got help from Steve Farr who earned his 2nd save. Tim Birtsas(2-2)
was tagged with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 7
runs in 6 innings.
With this win, Kansas City has a 24-30 record. They have been 6-4 lately.
With the loss, the Oakland ballclub's record is 25-30.

Cecil Cooper had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Teddy Higuera tossed a complete
game at Fenway Park as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Boston Red Sox 2 to
1.
Milwaukee scored 1 run in the 3rd inning. After an out was recorded, Robin
Yount doubled. Cooper followed and he doubled scoring the run. That was all
the offense they were to need. After the 3rd inning, neither team was able
to score.
The victory went to Higuera(6-7) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Steve
Crawford(6-5) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 2 runs and 7 hits in
6 innings.
