Mike Young connected with a 'big fly' and had 2 RBI as the Baltimore Orioles
outscored the Boston Red Sox in 12 innings 7 to 6.
The game was deadlocked at 6 after nine full innings. Baltimore won the hard
fought contest in the 12th inning. After two outs Eddie Murray hit a single.
Fred Lynn next to the plate and he drew a walk. Gary Roenicke then doubled
giving Baltimore the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. For
the game Baltimore out-hit Boston 14 to 11.
The victory was credited to Tippy Martinez(3-2) who went 3 and 1/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Bruce Kison(2-4) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 4
runs in 5 and 1/3 innings and saw his ERA increase from 2.94 to 3.31.

the combatants at game's end. The Minnesota Twins won by the slimmest of
margins, 4 to 3.
Minnesota jumped on top to stay in the 4th inning scoring a single run on 2
base hits. After an out was recorded, Gary Gaetti blasted a solo shot.
Minnesota and Chicago (AL) each finished the afternoon with 9 hits.
The win went to Frank Viola(5-6) who allowed 2 runs in 7 innings. Viola got
relief help from Pete Filson who gained credit for his 4th save. Joel
Davis(2-2) was the losing pitcher.

Oliver cracked a homer as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Detroit Tigers
by a score of 4 to 0 at Exhibition Stadium.
Detroit was unable to recover after Toronto went ahead in the bottom of the
5th inning plating one baserunner. Oliver lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'.
Toronto had just 6 hits for the afternoon.

Buddy Black had a strong outing at Anaheim Stadium as the Kansas City Royals
beat the California Angels 2 to 0.
Kansas City took the lead for keeps in the top of the 7th inning scoring one
runner. Black(5-5) was helped out by Dan Quisenberry who pitched a perfect
ninth and recorded his 8th save.
Don Sutton(7-4) absorbed the loss. With this win, Kansas City has a 23-30
record. They have been 6-4 lately. With the loss, the California ballclub's
record is 26-28.
