complete game as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Chicago (AL) White Sox 4 to
1 at Metrodome.
Blyleven(10-6) put on a good performance. He was stingy on the mound,
allowing just 6 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Minnesota rapped out 8 hits
for the night.
Richard Dotson(4-3) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 7 hits and 3 walks in

Catcher Ernie Whitt launched 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Jimmy Key came
through with a solid 9 innings as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Detroit
Tigers by a score of 8 to 1.
Whitt provided much of the offense. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 2nd
inning, delivered a single scoring a run in the 4th inning and smashed a
two-run homer in the 6th inning. Toronto banged out 14 hits on the
afternoon.
Key(6-2) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Juan Berenguer(1-3) was
given the loss. 'Key gave us exactly what we needed today.' Bobby Cox said.
'When he threw the fastball he threw it for strikes. They were really fooled
by his change. Most of the time he had them chasing it.'

49,463 fans were treated to a fine game at Anaheim Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The California Angels won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Mike Witt(5-7) gave California a solid outing. He allowed only 3 hits and 4
walks in 7 and 2/3 innings lowering his ERA to 3.78. Kansas City had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Donnie Moore recorded the save, his 10th. Bret Saberhagen(4-7) ended up with
the loss. 'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Dick Howser 'but it's losing the
close ones that really hurt.'

Catcher Bob Kearney blasted a homerun at Municipal Stadium as the Seattle
Mariners beat the Cleveland Indians by the count of 5 to 4.
Seattle won the game with a run in the top of the 9th inning. After an out
was recorded, Kearney cracked a solo homerun. Seattle took care of Cleveland
with no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
Roy Thomas(4-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 4 innings. Vern Ruhle(2-5) was
the loser in relief. With this win, Seattle has a 25-29 record. They have
been 5-5 lately. With the loss Cleveland now has a record of 21-33.

O'Brien led the offense for Texas. He popped a two-run clout over the fence
in the 4th inning, hit a single in the 6th inning, lofted a solo-blast
'downtown' in the 7th inning and lined a one-base hit in the 9th inning.
Texas managed 11 hits in their victory.
