Eddie Murray went yard and had 3 RBI at Memorial Stadium as the Baltimore
Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 11 to 6.
Murray provided much of the offense. He laced a base-knock scoring a run in
the 3rd inning, clubbed a two-run home run in the 4th inning and tripled in
the 6th inning. Baltimore provided plenty of action in the 4th inning which
saw them score 5 runs on 6 hits. Baltimore out-hit Boston for the game, 21
hits to 11.
Mike Boddicker(8-2) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 5 and 1/3
innings. Tippy Martinez preserved the game for Boddicker, recording his his
1st save. Steve Crawford(6-4) took the loss. He gave up 9 runs in 3 innings
of work.
With this win, Baltimore has a division leading 36-15 record. They have been

where the Minnesota Twins beat the Chicago (AL) White Sox by the score of 4
to 1.
Smithson(5-5) had a strong outing. He didn't give up much, just 7 hits and 1
walk in 9 innings. Minnesota finished with just 5 hits in the victory.
Gene Nelson(0-2) absorbed the loss in relief. He allowed 1 hit and no walks

In a good matchup it was the Toronto Blue Jays 4, the Detroit Tigers 1 at
Exhibition Stadium.
Toronto delivered all the runs required in the 7th inning when they came up
with 4 runs on 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Willie Upshaw who
electrified Exhibition Stadium when he cracked a two-run shot. Both teams
totaled 6 hits on the night.
The win went to Doyle Alexander(7-4) who allowed 1 run in 8 innings. Alexander
was helped out by Tom Henke who recorded his 9th save. Jack Morris(7-4)
ended up with the loss.

Jim Sundberg cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Kansas City Royals bested
the California Angels 7 to 5 at Anaheim Stadium.
Sundberg enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He smacked a three-run homer in
the 4th inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 6th inning.
California had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Danny Jackson(3-5) got the win allowing 4 runs in 7 innings. Jackson got help
from Dan Quisenberry who earned his 7th save. John Candelaria(2-6) was hit
with the loss. His ERA ballooned from 3.04 to 3.39 as he allowed 7 runs in 5
and 2/3 innings.
'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Gene Mauch said. 'We did what
we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'
