Oddibe McDowell left the yard at Arlington Stadium as the Texas Rangers won in
their last at-bat beating the Chicago (AL) White Sox by the count of 5 to
4.
Texas won the game with a run in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded,
Steve Buechele ripped a base-hit. Tolleson got a good lead and stole second.
Curt Wilkerson then stroked a one-base hit resulting in an exciting win for
Texas and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Chicago
(AL) had 9 hits in the game while Texas had 6, but Texas had the more timely
hits.
Chris Welsh(4-3) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Tom
Seaver(4-6) suffered the loss. He pitched 8 and 1/3 innings and surrendered
6 hits and 4 walks.

Dave Stieb threw a 2 hit shutout and George Bell had 2 base hits at Exhibition
Stadium where the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Detroit Tigers 5 to
0.
Stieb(8-5) was virtually untouchable. He allowed just 2 hits and 1 walk in 9
innings improving his ERA from 2.52 to 2.31. Toronto finished with 7 hits in
the victory.
Frank Tanana(8-7) was charged with the loss. 'When Stieb is on like that it
is a tough game to play, no doubt about it,' Sparky Anderson said. 'He always
pitches well against us.'

Mike Moore(6-8) and Jamie Easterly(3-10) dueled it out with Moore and the
Seattle Mariners coming out on top of the Cleveland Indians by the score of 2
to 1.
Moore had a solid outing for Seattle. He went 6 and 2/3 innings and surrended
up 6 hits and 3 walks. Cleveland was set down quietly in the bottom of the
9th.
Roy Thomas earned the save, his 6th. 'He gutted it out' Chuck Cottier said of
Moore. 'I was very impressed by his tenacity.'
