The California Angels edged the Baltimore Orioles at Memorial Stadium by the
score of 3 to 2.
Baltimore surrendered all of the runs California needed in the 2nd inning when
they tallied 3 runs on 3 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for
Don Sutton(7-3) and California. That was all the run support Sutton
required. The pitchers took over after the 2nd inning as neither team was
able to score again.
Donnie Moore recorded the save, his 9th. The loss was charged to Sammy
Stewart(5-3). The California ballclub's record now stands at 25-25.
Baltimore has a record of 34-15 after the loss.

At Arlington Stadium the Texas Rangers offense put up 4 runs on the scoreboard
in the 2nd inning and outscored the Chicago (AL) White Sox 8 to 5.
Dave Schmidt(5-3) pitched okay, well enough for the win. He went 6 and 2/3
innings and surrended up 8 hits and 3 walks. Texas had a total of 13 hits
for the game.
Schmidt got help from Greg Harris who earned his 10th save. Richard
Dotson(4-2) was tagged with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 10 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.

The Cleveland Indians readily handled Boston Red Sox by a score of 6 to 2 at
Fenway Park.
Cleveland jumped on top of Boston in the 5th inning with 2 runs on 2 base
hits. Pat Tabler led off and he reached on an error. Joe Carter followed
next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. After another out, Tony Bernazard
was walked intentionally. Chris Bando stepped in and he lined a one-base hit
scoring a single run. Brett Butler stepped into the box and ripped a
base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Both teams ended up with 10
hits on the night.
Keith Creel(3-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Tom Waddell got the save, his 4th. Bob Ojeda(2-9) took the
loss. He gave up 6 runs and 9 hits in 6 innings.

Right fielder Darryl Motley went deep and had 2 RBI and Bret Saberhagen went
the distance at Royals Stadium where the Kansas City Royals beat the
Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 9 to 1.
Saberhagen(4-6) gave Kansas City a solid outing. He didn't give up much, just
7 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 4.13 to 3.79. Kansas
City managed 12 hits in their victory.
The losing pitcher was Danny Darwin(1-7). He served up 3 homeruns in his 6
and 1/3 innings.
