In the 5th inning Baltimore went on top for good plating one baserunner on 2
base hits. Eddie Murray drew a walk. Mike Witt then let loose a wild pitch.
Fred Lynn then banged out a single scoring the run. Lynn took second on the
throw. Both teams totaled 7 hits on the night.
Scott McGregor(1-1) got the win allowing 1 run in 6 and 1/3 innings. Witt(4-7)
took the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings.

Chicago (AL) jumped on top of Texas in the 4th inning scoring a single run
using 2 hits. Carlton Fisk hit a bases-empty home run. Bob James was great
in relief and recorded his 13th save.
Britt Burns(6-6) went 7 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Dave
Stewart(3-6) ended up with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 2

Lou Whitaker went deep and had 3 RBI at Tiger Stadium as the Detroit Tigers
beat the Seattle Mariners by the count of 6 to 0.
Detroit took the lead for good in the 4th inning plating an isolated run on 2
hits. Detroit ended up with 9 hits for the game while Seattle had 4.
Jack Morris(7-3) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 7 innings. Morris
got help from Guillermo Hernandez who earned his 9th save. Matt Young(5-5)
was the loser.
The winning ways continue for Detroit. They now have a record of 8-2 in
recent days. Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Seattle is 2-8 of
late and now has an overall record of 21-28.

41,272 fans were treated to a fine game at Busch Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Houston Astros won by the
slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.
Houston scored the deciding run in the top of the 9th inning. After two outs
Phil Garner singled. Mark Bailey stepped up to the plate and he reached on
an error scoring the run. St. Louis was set down quietly in the bottom of
the 9th.
Jeff Calhoun(2-1) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory. Dave
Smith earned the save, his 11th. The losing pitcher was John Tudor(5-6). It
was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 9 innings
of work.
