In a close game it was the Baltimore Orioles 7, the California Angels 5 in 10
innings at Anaheim Stadium.
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Baltimore won the
game in the 10th inning. Larry Sheets led off and got things going when he
lined a single. Mike Young got his chance to keep things going, but he went
down on strikes. Floyd Rayford then blasted a two-run home run. Both teams
finished the game with 9 hits.

In a game at Arlington Stadium the Texas Rangers got by the floundering Boston
Red Sox by the score of 7 to 4.
Dickie Noles(3-5) delivered a fine performance for Texas. He went 8 innings
and surrended up 9 hits and no walks. Noles got help from Greg Harris who
pitched a perfect ninth and was credited with his 8th save.
The losing pitcher was Bob Ojeda(2-7). He surrendered 6 runs and 7 hits in 6
and 1/3 innings. Wth the win Texas now has a record of 21-21. John McNamara
was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately,
something like 2-8 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'

Bret Saberhagen didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning at Royals Stadium as
the Kansas City Royals beat the struggling Chicago (AL) White Sox in 12
innings by the count of 3 to 2.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Kansas City won the hard
fought contest in the 12th inning. Steve Balboni blasted a solo shot giving
Kansas City the victory as 39,434 happy fans celebrated wildly. Kansas City
finished with 9 hits while Chicago (AL) ended up with 5.
Steve Farr(5-3) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. The
right-handed Saberhagen had his no-hit bid broken up by Daryl Boston who
doubled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Dan Spillner(2-2) was given the
loss in relief.
