Brett Butler had 2 base hits as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Toronto
Blue Jays by a score of 2 to 1 at Municipal Stadium.
Toronto was unable to claim the lead after Cleveland went ahead in the 3rd
inning plating an isolated run. Tony Bernazard doubled. After an out was
recorded, Butler stepped in and he reached on an error scoring the run.
Toronto threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
The win was credited to Keith Creel(2-2) who went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 1
run. Tom Waddell recorded his 2nd save. Jim Clancy(2-1) suffered the loss.
Bobby Cox was reflective after the loss, 'We should have won this one, we just
made one too many mistakes. Son-of-a-gun, that added a couple more white
hairs on this noggin of mine.'

The Houston Astros had very little trouble at Wrigley Field downing the
Chicago (NL) Cubs. The score was 12 to 5.
Bill Doran was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine
day at their team's expense. He smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the
1st inning, delivered a base-hit in the 8th inning and tripled bringing home
two baserunners in the 9th inning. Houston out-hit Chicago (NL) for the
game, 17 hits to 14.
The win went to Mike Scott(4-2) who allowed 4 runs in 6 innings. Rick
Sutcliffe(7-3) was charged with the loss. He got hammered, allowing 9 hits
and 2 walks in 5 innings.
