Reggie Jackson ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Anaheim Stadium as the
California Angels beat the Baltimore Orioles 4 to 3.
Jackson had a big evening at the plate. He cracked a solo homerun in the 4th
inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 8th inning. Baltimore had a chance
in the 9th but they came up short.
Stew Cliburn(3-6) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Cliburn got help from Donnie Moore who was credited with his 6th
save. Nate Snell(4-1) ended up with the loss in relief.

At Arlington Stadium, the Texas faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel. Charlie Hough(6-0) finally bested his Boston counterpart,
Roger Clemens(4-4), by the score of 2 to 1.
Texas jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring a single run.
Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 3rd inning with no runs scored after
that point.
Hough got help from Greg Harris who earned his 7th save. Clemens was the
loser. He allowed just 2 runs and 3 hits in 8 innings.

Buddy Black tossed a complete game as the Kansas City Royals defeated the
Chicago (AL) White Sox by the score of 5 to 4 at Royals Stadium.
Kansas City won the game with a run in the 8th inning. After an out was
recorded, George Brett lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Kansas City had only
6 hits for the night.
Black(3-4) allowed 4 runs on the game. Tom Seaver(4-4) was hit with the loss.

In a good matchup it was the Detroit Tigers 4, the reeling Seattle Mariners 2
at The Kingdome.
Detroit erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs on
3 base hits. After two were out Larry Herndon began the Detroit spurt when
he stroked a single. Nelson Simmons was next and he blasted a two-run home
run. Detroit managed 7 hits in their victory.
Guillermo Hernandez(3-1) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Mike
Moore(4-7) took the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 6 hits in 8 and 2/3 innings.
'Wow. That's about all I can think to say.' said Sparky Anderson following
the victory. 'If ever a team needed a win, it was us.'

Catcher Tim Laudner touched them all as the Minnesota Twins defeated the
Milwaukee Brewers 5 to 2 at County Stadium.
The game started off with Minnesota taking the lead in the first scoring one
runner. Both teams finished the game with 9 hits.
Bert Blyleven(7-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing
2 runs. Ron Davis got the save, his 5th. The losing pitcher was Bob
McClure(2-5).
The Minnesota ballclub's record now stands at 18-22. George Bamberger was
unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he
said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.'
