In a thriller the Oakland Athletics staged a dramatic comeback over the
Baltimore Orioles winning by a score of 5 to 4 at Oakland Co
Stadium.
Oakland scored the winning runs in the 9th inning plating 3 runs on 4 hits.
Mike Heath opened up the inning nicely when he slapped a base-hit. Jose
Canseco stepped up next and he ripped a single. Alfredo Griffin then drew a
walk to load the bases. Carney Lansford came up and he banged out a single
driving home two runs. Lansford took second on the throw. Bruce Bochte came
up to bat and delivered a one-base hit making Oakland the winners and sending
the 10,946 fans home happy. Oakland finished with 12 hits while Baltimore
ended up with 7.
Steve Ontiveros(4-0) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
The loss was charged to Sammy Stewart(4-1) in relief. Jackie Moore was
ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game like that.
Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did you see the fans - they
were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'

Larry Parrish lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI as the Texas
Rangers defeated the Boston Red Sox by the score of 6 to 3 at Arlington
Stadium.
Dave Schmidt(4-3) pitched well for Texas in their victory. He was reached for
7 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 1/3 innings lowering his ERA to 4.35. Texas
out-hit Boston for the game, 14 hits to 10.
Dave Rozema earned the save, his 1st. Bob Ojeda(2-6) took the loss. He
allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 7 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3
innings.
Wth the win Texas now has a record of 18-21. With this loss, Boston has a 4-6
record of late, 17-22 overall.

Damaso Garcia had 4 hits and Doyle Alexander threw a 3 hit shutout at
Municipal Stadium where the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cleveland Indians by
the score of 7 to 0.
Alexander(5-3) was virtually untouchable. He surrendered only 3 hits and 2
walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 4.39 to 3.87. Toronto had a total
of 17 hits for the game.
Vern Ruhle(2-2) was charged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 11
hits and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. 'Alexander took our guys to school'
Pat Corrales said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch for us - it would make my job a
