Gross had a big day with his bat. He launched a three-run homer in the 2nd

Seattle for the game, 17 hits to 11.

The Cleveland Indians and the Boston Red Sox locked up in an exciting one-run
game at Municipal Stadium. The final score was the Cleveland Indians 4, the
Boston Red Sox 3 in 11 innings.
Both teams had scored 3 runs after nine full innings. Cleveland ended up
winning it in the 11th inning. Andre Thornton doubled. Otis Nixon was the
next batter, but he struck out. Mike Hargrove then lined a one-base hit.
George Vukovich came up and he slapped a base-hit giving Cleveland the win
much to the delight of the home town crowd. Boston out-hit Cleveland 13 to
10, but Cleveland ended up with more runs.
The win went to Bryan Clark(1-0) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Mark
Clear(1-1) ended up with the loss in relief. By giving up 1 run in 1 and 2/3
innings his ERA increased from 2.13 to 2.51.

Steve McCatty(3-0) got credit for the win at Oakland Co Stadium as the Oakland
Athletics shutout the Detroit Tigers 3 to 0.
McCatty earned the victory with a fine relief performance. He didn't allow
much, just 1 hit and no walks in 3 and 1/3 innings reducing his ERA from 4.45
to 4.01. Oakland had only 5 hits for the afternoon.
Jay Howell recorded his 4th save. Jack Morris(6-3) was tagged with the loss.
He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 8 innings
of work.
