Fred Lynn lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI as the Baltimore
Orioles defeated the Seattle Mariners 14 to 6 at The Kingdome.
Lynn enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He doubled in the 3rd inning,
lashed a single scoring a run in the 6th inning and cleared the fences for a
two-run home run in the 8th inning. Even though they scored in 5 different
innings, Seattle was not able to pull off the win.
Mike Boddicker(7-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and
allowing 5 runs. Matt Young(4-2) was given the loss. He served up 4 gopher
balls in 2 innings.
This win by Baltimore continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten
games, they have a record of 9-1. For the season, they are a division
leading 26-8. With the loss, the Seattle ballclub's record is 19-16.

Left fielder Steve Henderson touched them all and had 2 RBI and Chris Codiroli
allowed 3 hits while blanking Detroit as the Oakland Athletics outscored the
Detroit Tigers 7 to 0.
Codiroli(4-3) was on top of his game. He didn't give up much, just 3 hits and
1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 2.20. Oakland managed 10 hits in
their victory.
Frank Tanana(5-5) was charged with the loss. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 9 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Sparky Anderson lamented, 'Codiroli was really aggressive today. He kept
coming after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept sitting our guys down one
after another - like so many bowling pins!'

In a good matchup it was the Kansas City Royals 5, the Milwaukee Brewers 3 in
10 innings at County Stadium.
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Finally, Kansas City pulled
the game out in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Jim Sundberg
began the rally when he drew a walk. Onix Concepcion stepped into the
batter's box and he drew a walk. One out later, Jorge Orta then doubled, and
an error was also committed, driving in two more baserunners. Milwaukee had
13 hits in the game while Kansas City had 6, but Kansas City had the more
timely hits.
The victory went to Joe Beckwith(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Bob McClure(2-4) was the loser in relief. He gave up 2 runs and no hits in 5
innings.
