The Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago (AL) White Sox locked up in an exciting
one-run game at Comiskey Park. The final score was the Baltimore Orioles 6,
the Chicago (AL) White Sox 5.
Rick Dempsey was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine
day at their team's expense. He lofted a three-run bomb in the 5th inning
and doubled which brought home a run in the 6th inning. Chicago (AL)
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Tippy Martinez(2-1) went 4 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Don Aase gained credit for his 6th save. Tom Seaver(4-2) ended up with the
loss.
'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us tonight' Tony LaRussa
said. 'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to
take.'

Bert Blyleven had a complete game as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Detroit
Tigers by the score of 9 to 3 at Metrodome.
Minnesota jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 2nd inning with 2 runs.
After an out was recorded, Gary Gaetti was the sparkplug when he drew a walk.
One out later, Greg Gagne came up and he drew a walk. Mark Salas then
doubled driving in two more baserunners. Minnesota banged out 11 hits on the
afternoon.
The win was credited to Blyleven(5-5) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.
Walt Terrell(2-5) was the loser. He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 5
hits and 5 walks.

Steve Balboni launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Kansas City Royals
outscored the Cleveland Indians 11 to 7.
Balboni had a big day against Cleveland. He smashed a two-run homer in the
2nd inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 6th inning, doubled in the
7th inning and doubled in the 9th inning. Cleveland scored in 5 different
innings, but their shaky pitching kept them from victory.
Steve Farr(2-2) went 4 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Ramon Romero(0-1)
was given the loss in relief. He served up 3 gopher balls in 1 and 1/3
innings.
'I felt great out there tonight' Balboni said. 'I was seeing the ball
perfectly, and I was right on it with my swing.
