One run was the difference at Comiskey Park as the Chicago (AL) White Sox
defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6 to 5.
Floyd Bannister(1-0) pitched well enough to earn the win. He went 6 and 1/3
innings and surrended up 6 hits and 3 walks and allowed 3 gopher balls.
Baltimore threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Bob James was credited with his 11th save. Storm Davis(4-3) took the loss.
He allowed 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. 'Just one or two
mistakes were all it took to beat us tonight' Earl Weaver said. 'We take
these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to take.'

Mike Witt pitched a complete game shutout as the California Angels defeated
the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 5 to 0 at Exhibition
Stadium.
Witt(4-5) put on a good performance. He allowed only 7 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings improving his ERA from 4.31 to 3.79. California had only 5 hits for
the game.
Jimmy Key(3-2) suffered the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 4 hits in 5 and 1/3
innings.

Jack Morris dominated striking out 13 Minnesota batters and Darrell Evans hit
a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers outscored the floundering
Minnesota Twins 11 to 3.
Evans had a good evening at the plate. He lofted a three-run bomb in the 1st
inning, doubled in the 5th inning and lined a single in the 6th inning.
Detroit had 15 hits for the night while Minnesota had 9.
Morris(6-2) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Mike
Smithson(3-5) ended up with the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 6
innings of work.
'I had my good stuff tonight.' Morris said. 'As the game went along I started
to get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'

The Cleveland Indians had an easy time of it at Municipal Stadium defeating
the ice-cold Kansas City Royals by a score of 8 to 3.
Cleveland promptly took the lead in their half of the first plating 3 runs on
4 hits. After an out was recorded, Julio Franco began the Cleveland spurt
when he ripped a single. Brook Jacoby stepped into the batter's box and he
banged out a single. Andre Thornton then stroked a base-hit scoring a single
run. Pat Tabler was up next and he lined a one-base hit plating another run.
One out later, A balk was called scoring the final run of the inning. For
the game Cleveland out-hit Kansas City 15 to 11.
The victory went to Don Schulze(2-4) who went 7 and 1/3 innings, allowing 3
runs. Danny Jackson(1-4) was the loser. He was hit hard and gave up 12 hits
and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
