Third baseman Brook Jacoby had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Cleveland Indians
defeated the Chicago (AL) White Sox by the score of 7 to 5 at Comiskey
Park.
Cleveland scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 3 base
hits. Julio Franco led off and started the attack as he slapped a one-base
hit. Tony Bernazard came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Brett
Butler then drew a walk. Jacoby followed next and he lashed a single to load
the bases. Andre Thornton came to the plate and was walked intentionally to
load the bases. Jerry Willard continued the rally and banged out a base-hit
driving home two runs. Willard took second on the throw. The Chicago (AL)
bats were silent in the bottom of the 9th.
Curt Wardle(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 3 and 2/3 innings.
Gene Nelson(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He pitched 3 and 1/3 innings

Floyd Rayford slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI and Mike Boddicker came through
with a solid 8 and two third innings at Memorial Stadium where the red-hot
Baltimore Orioles beat the struggling Kansas City Royals by the score of 3 to
1.
Baltimore plated all the runs they needed in the 1st inning when they tallied
3 runs on 3 hits. That was all the runs Boddicker(6-1) needed. Kansas City
had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Don Aase earned the save, his 5th. Charlie Leibrandt(1-3) was charged with
the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.
Baltimore added another win to their mounting winning streak. Earl Weaver held
court after the contest, 'Everything is coming up aces right now. It is
important for our team to ride this wave as long as we can. Every win is
important.'

Second baseman Toby Harrah had 5 hits and 2 RBI at Tiger Stadium where the
Texas Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers 11 to 4.
Harrah was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He hit a bases-empty home run in the 1st inning,
ripped a single in the 4th inning, doubled in the 5th inning, laced a
base-knock in the 7th inning and laced a one-base hit plating a run in the
9th inning. Texas out-hit Detroit for the game, 17 hits to 11.
The victory went to Dave Rozema(2-3) who went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs.
Randy O'Neal(0-1) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 14 hits and 5
walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
