Bob Boone homered and had 2 RBI and Don Sutton didn't allow a hit until the
7th inning as the California Angels defeated the Milwaukee Brewers by a score
of 4 to 1 at County Stadium.
Sutton(4-3) was on top of his game. He surrendered only 3 hits and no walks
in 8 innings lowering his ERA from 4.53 to 4.06. The right-handed Sutton
lost his no-hit bid when Cecil Cooper doubled with two outs in the 7th
inning. For the game California out-hit Milwaukee 7 to 3.
Donnie Moore recorded his 4th save. Bob McClure(2-3) was given the loss. He
gave up 2 runs and 5 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings.

At Arlington Stadium the Cleveland Indians outscored the Texas Rangers 5 to
2.
Rich Thompson(3-2) pitched well in relief and was credited with the victory.
He didn't give up much, just 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 and 2/3 innings lowering
his ERA to 3.42. Overall Cleveland out-hit Texas 14 to 9.
Dickie Noles(2-4) suffered the loss. He allowed 10 hits and 1 walk in 7

36,985 fans watched an exciting game at Comiskey Park. The Detroit Tigers
topped the Chicago (AL) White Sox by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.
Both teams had scored 3 runs after nine full innings. Detroit won it in the
12th inning. Lou Whitaker drew a walk. Juan Agosto then picked Whitaker off
first base. Bob Melvin then tripled. Nelson Simmons stepped in and he hit a
sacrifice fly scoring the run. Detroit totaled 9 hits on the night.
Guillermo Hernandez(2-1) went 4 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Hernandez
got help from Aurelio Lopez who earned his 1st save. Agosto(2-2) was charged
with the loss in relief.

Ken Dixon went 6 and two third solid innings at Memorial Stadium as the
red-hot Baltimore Orioles beat the Minnesota Twins 4 to 0.
Minnesota fell behind quickly as the Baltimore offense came through in the
first inning scoring 3 runners on 2 hits. That early scoring held up. Both
teams' bats went to sleep after the 2nd inning with no runs scored after that
point.
The win went to Dixon(5-2) who allowed no runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Bert
Blyleven(4-5) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 7
hits and 2 walks.
