| MINNESOTA AT BALTIMORE

Orioles......... 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 1 3 0
Win:Davis(4-2) Loss:Viola(2-3)
Homeruns- R.Dempsey(2nd)
Storm Davis carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the blistering-hot
Baltimore Orioles bested the Minnesota Twins 1 to 0 at Memorial
Stadium.
Davis(4-2) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Minnesota offense. He
didn't allow much, just 4 hits and no walks in 9 innings dropping his ERA
from 1.93 to 1.55. The right-handed Davis lost his chance for a no-hitter
when Roy Smalley singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Minnesota tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Frank Viola(2-3) took the loss. He gave up only 3 hits and 1 walk in 8
innings. When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Viola was
lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be
in for a long night. Davis brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff
and was able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two bad
pitches the entire game!
