Both teams had scored 8 runs after nine full innings. Baltimore ended up winning it in the 10th inning. John Shelby led off and started the rally when he lined a one-base hit. Alan Wiggins was next and he banged out a single. Wayne Gross then hit a sacrifice fly scoring a run. Wiggins proceeded to steal third base. Fritzie Connally came to the plate and doubled bringing in another run. Mike Young added to the rally and reached on an error. Rayford stepped into the batter's box and he ripped a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Baltimore out-hit Kansas City for the game, 18 hits to 13. Nate Snell(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 3 and 1/3 innings. Dan Quisenberry(0-1) was the loser in relief. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 3 runs in 2 innings. Baltimore extended their winning streak to 8 games. Earl Weaver was thrilled following the game -- 'We're really on a roll now. These guys are playing their hearts out and I couldn't be happier for them!' Thompson enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 1st inning, clubbed a two-run home run in the 3rd inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 5th inning and delivered a single in the 7th inning. Pittsburgh had 14 hits for the night while San Diego had 7. The victory went to Reuschel(2-1) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs.
