Mike Young had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Ken Dixon went 9 solid innings as the
blistering-hot Baltimore Orioles defeated the floundering Kansas City Royals
by a score of 8 to 0 at Royals Stadium.
Dixon(4-2) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Kansas City offense. He
didn't allow much, just 5 hits and no walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA
from 4.85 to 4.01. Baltimore banged out 14 hits on the night.
Bret Saberhagen(1-5) was the losing pitcher. Baltimore knocked him around a
bit, as he gave up 6 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings.

Mike Witt allowed Gene Mauch to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the California Angels defeated the Boston Red Sox 8 to 4 at Fenway
Park.
Witt(2-5) was solid in the win. He gave up just 4 hits and 5 walks in 9
innings. California rapped out 16 hits for the night.
Oil Can Boyd(2-3) took the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits and

Bob James stopped Cleveland cold at Municipal Stadium where the Chicago (AL)
White Sox beat the Cleveland Indians by the score of 6 to 5.
Chicago (AL) won the game with a run in the top of the 9th inning. After an
out was recorded, Tim Hulett laced a base-knock. Bryan Little next to the
plate and he banged out a single. Daryl Boston then hit a deep fly scoring
the run. Cleveland proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
Juan Agosto(2-1) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. James
gained credit for his 9th save. Rich Thompson(2-2) ended up with the loss in
relief. He surrendered 3 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings and saw his ERA increase
from 3.57 to 4.22.
The Chicago (AL) ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 14-8.
With the loss Cleveland now has a record of 9-16.
