At The Kingdome the Seattle Mariners outdistanced the Boston Red Sox by a
final score of 12 to 8.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Gorman Thomas. He smashed a two-run homer in the 2nd inning,
ripped a one-base hit in the 5th inning and laced a base-hit which brought
home a run in the 6th inning. Boston had a chance in the 9th but they came
up short.
The win went to Matt Young(2-1) who allowed 7 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Mike
Trujillo(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He served up 5 gopher balls
in 3 and 2/3 innings.
'We lose our concentration for one pitch, and we lose the game.' John McNamara
said after the game. 'Maybe now these guys will listen when I say they have
to concentrate on EVERY pitch.'

Left fielder Dusty Baker smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Oakland Co
Stadium as the Oakland Athletics beat the Milwaukee Brewers by the count of 7
to 3.
The Oakland fans enjoyed the offense provided by Baker. He smacked a
three-run homer in the 1st inning and ripped a solo home run in the 6th
inning. Keith Atherton was perfect in relief and gained credit for his 2nd
save.
The winning pitcher was Jose Rijo(2-1) who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings. Danny

Rance Mulliniks had 2 base hits as the Toronto Blue Jays topped the California
Angels by a score of 3 to 1 at Anaheim Stadium.
Toronto took the lead for good in the 4th inning plating an isolated run.
Lloyd Moseby laced a single. Jesse Barfield came to the plate and drew a
walk. One out later, Ernie Whitt then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run.
The California batters didn't put up a fight in the bottom of the 9th.
Jim Clancy(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 7 and 1/3 innings.
Tom Henke got the save, his 4th. Mike Witt(1-5) absorbed the loss. He gave
up 8 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings.
