Bill Buckner had 3 base hits at Anaheim Stadium where the Boston Red Sox beat
the California Angels 6 to 4.
Steve Crawford(2-2) gave a fine effort for Boston. He was reached for 5 hits
and 2 walks in 5 innings reducing his ERA from 5.82 to 4.91. California had
a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Crawford got relief help from Bob Stanley who gained credit for his 2nd save.
John Candelaria(1-1) was the losing pitcher. 'Fundamentals, fundamentals,
fundamentals' said Gene Mauch after the game. 'We lost this game tonight
because we didn't follow the instructions every Little Leaguer hears every
day.'

Mike Young hit one over the fence as the Baltimore Orioles topped the Chicago
(AL) White Sox in 13 innings by a score of 5 to 4 at Memorial Stadium.
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Finally, Baltimore
prevailed in the 13th inning. After an out was recorded, Fred Lynn hit a
bases-empty home run making Baltimore the victors to the delight of the home
town faithful. Baltimore managed 10 hits in their victory.
Tippy Martinez(1-1) went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Dan Spillner(2-1) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 3 and 2/3 innings
allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.

Shortstop Julio Franco collected 4 RBI with one swing of the bat and Keith
Creel pitched a complete game as the Cleveland Indians clobbered the
outmatched Kansas City Royals, 13 to 3.
Franco propelled Cleveland to victory. He doubled in the 3rd inning,
depressed the partisan hometown fans with a grand slam home run in the 4th
inning and tripled which was good for two runs in the 7th inning. Cleveland
had 18 hits for the night.
Creel(1-1), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Buddy
Black(2-2) was hit with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 7 hits and 2
walks in 4 innings.
'I was in my hotel room the other night, working on my swing and made some
adjustments,' Franco said. 'I'm always working on it. If they are getting you
out certain ways, you've got to make changes.'
