Seattle had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 4th inning. After an out was recorded, Bradley keyed the rally when he banged out a single. After another out, Gorman Thomas came up and he popped a two-run clout over the fence. Despite losing, California out-hit Seattle 11 to 5. St. Louis came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 3 base hits. Tom Herr got things going when he laced a base-hit. After another out, Tito Landrum got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Vince Coleman then laced a base-knock. Coleman then stole second base. Tom Lawless came up to bat and doubled driving home two runs. St. Louis won despite being out-hit by Montreal 11 hits to 8. Jeff Lahti(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 innings and allowing no runs. Lahti got help from Ken Dayley who was credited with his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Jeff Reardon(1-1) in relief. He surrendered 2 runs in 1 inning and saw his ERA increase from 2.31 to 3.55. After the game, it took a long while before Buck Rodgers emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions.
