The Baltimore Orioles pitching staff was overwhelmed by the Texas Rangers
lineup who plated 8 runs while Dave Stewart(2-1), with relief help from Chris
Welsh, shutout Baltimore.
Texas started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the
first scoring a single run. After an out was recorded, Toby Harrah drew a
walk. Pete O'Brien stepped up to the plate and he slapped a one-base hit.
Larry Parrish then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. That was all the
offense they were to need. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 3rd
inning with no runs scored after that point.
Ken Dixon(1-2) took the loss. By surrending 8 runs in 2 innings his ERA
jumped from 4.50 to 6.58.

Indians topped the Detroit Tigers by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Rich Thompson(1-1) won the game with a masterful relief performance. He
allowed just 1 hit and no walks in 3 innings. Cleveland won despite being
out-hit by Detroit 10 hits to 7.
Jack Morris(3-1) suffered the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 7 hits in 8
innings.

Ray Burris carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning as the Milwaukee Brewers
beat the Chicago (AL) White Sox by a score of 5 to 0.
Burris(1-0) was on top of his game. He gave up just 2 hits and 3 walks in 9
innings improving his ERA from 3.86 to 1.32. The right-handed Burris had his
no-hit bid broken up by Ozzie Guillen who doubled with one out in the 7th
inning. Milwaukee banged out 7 hits on the night.
The loss was charged to Britt Burns(3-1). He surrendered 6 hits and 5 walks

Luis Sanchez had a strong outing at Anaheim Stadium where the California
Angels beat the Oakland Athletics by the score of 6 to 5.
California erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs
on 3 hits. Ruppert Jones led off and keyed the rally when he laced a
one-base hit. Rufino Linares next to the plate and he drew a walk. Jack
Howell struck out, unable to help the rally. Juan Beniquez came up and he
ripped a single driving in a run. Daryl Sconiers stepped into the box and
smacked a base-hit to load the bases. Gary Pettis kept the inning going and
drew a walk plating one more runner. After another out, Reggie Jackson came
up and he drew a walk scoring the final run of the inning. Oakland had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Stew Cliburn(1-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 1/3 of an inning and
allowing no runs. Donnie Moore was credited with his 1st save. Jay
Howell(1-1) was charged with the loss in relief.
