Center fielder Oddibe McDowell had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Arlington Stadium where
the Texas Rangers beat the Baltimore Orioles 5 to 2.
Texas scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning with the help of 4 hits.
That early run support was enough for Charlie Hough(2-0) and Texas. Texas
out-hit Baltimore for the game, 12 hits to 4.
Hough got relief help from Greg Harris who gained credit for his 2nd save.
Scott McGregor(0-1) absorbed the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 9 hits and 5 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Lou Whitaker homered and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers outscored the
Cleveland Indians in 10 innings 10 to 9.
Both teams were tied at 9 runs apiece after nine innings. Detroit came out on
top in the 10th inning. Kirk Gibson drew a walk. A balk was called. Two
outs later Bryan Clark came up and he uncorked a wild one that found its way
to the backstop. Clark then was wild with a pitch scoring the run. Detroit
had 16 hits for the afternoon.
Guillermo Hernandez(1-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 and 2/3
innings and allowing 2 runs. The loss was charged to Rich Thompson(0-1) in
relief.

Tony Fernandez had 3 base hits as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Kansas
City Royals 3 to 2 at Exhibition Stadium.
Toronto came up with 2 runs in the 4th inning. Fernandez led off and keyed
the rally when he smacked a single. Jesse Barfield stepped up next and he
clubbed a two-run home run. Kansas City made it exciting in the 9th, but
they were unable to push the needed runs across.
The win was credited to Jim Clancy(1-0) who went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 2
runs. Clancy got help from Bill Caudill who was credited with his 2nd save.
Buddy Black(1-1) was charged with the loss.
