One run was the difference at Exhibition Stadium as the Baltimore Orioles
defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 4 to 3.
Baltimore jumped on top of Toronto in the top of the 3rd inning plating an
isolated run using 2 hits. Toronto had a chance in the 9th but they came up
short.
Sammy Stewart(2-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Don Aase recorded
his 1st save. Jimmy Key(2-1) took the loss. Bobby Cox was subdued after the
ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our guys had simply played more
fundamentally sound, we could have won that one. That is what really ticks
me off!'

The Boston Red Sox edged the Chicago (AL) White Sox at Comiskey Park by the
score of 4 to 3.
Boston had the winning rally in the 8th inning with 2 runs. Jim Rice opened
up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Two outs later Tony Armas stepped
in and he blasted a two-run home run. The Chicago (AL) bats were silent in
the bottom of the 9th.
The win went to Oil Can Boyd(2-1) who allowed 3 runs in 8 innings. Boyd got
help from Bob Stanley who earned his 1st save. Bob James(0-1) was charged
with the loss in relief.

Danny Jackson pitched 9 strong innings as the Kansas City Royals bested the
Detroit Tigers 5 to 0 at Tiger Stadium.
Kansas City scored 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. After an out was
recorded, Onix Concepcion keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Lonnie Smith
followed next and he doubled knocking in a run. Willie Wilson followed, but
he was set down on strikes. A balk was called scoring the final run of the
inning. That early run support was all that Jackson(1-1) required. Kansas
City had only 6 hits for the game.
Frank Tanana(2-2) was hit with the loss. 'I've been working on a few things
in my delivery, and I think I'm hitting a good groove.' Jackson said after
the game. 'I'm ready to start another game tomorrow!'

Cowens had a big day with his bat. He doubled which scored a run in the 2nd
inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 4th inning and cleared the fences for a
two-run home run in the 6th inning. Seattle had 13 hits for the game and
California had 6.
The win was credited to Bill Swift(1-1) who went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 4
runs. Don Sutton(0-2) suffered the loss. He was unable to control the
