Bert Blyleven completed the game without help from the bullpen and Kent Hrbek
had 2 base hits as the Minnesota Twins defeated the California Angels in 11
innings 5 to 4 at Metrodome.
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Minnesota came out the
victor in the 11th inning. Hrbek stroked a single. After an out was
recorded, Dave Engle came up and he doubled. Mark Salas then was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Ron Washington was up next and he singled
giving Minnesota the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.
Minnesota totaled 16 hits on the night.
Blyleven(2-1) got the victory, allowing 4 runs for the game. Stew Cliburn(0-3)
was charged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk in 1
inning.
