Bob Welch came through with a solid 9 innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers
pulled out a win over the Houston Astros by a score of 2 to 1 at Dodger
Stadium.
Los Angeles won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Mike
Marshall clubbed a solo home run making Los Angeles the winners and sending
the 55,321 fans home happy. Los Angeles managed 10 hits in their victory.
Welch(1-0) allowed 1 run on the game. Bill Dawley(0-2) was charged with the
loss in relief. 'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I
think I'm hitting a good groove.' Welch said after the game. 'I'm ready to
start another game tomorrow!'

Tim Wallach hit one over the fence at Busch Stadium as the Montreal Expos beat
the St. Louis Cardinals by the count of 1 to 0.
Joe Hesketh(2-0) pitched a fine game. He surrendered 3 hits and 3 walks in 5
innings. St. Louis went down without a fight in the bottom of the 9th.
Hesketh got help from Jeff Reardon who earned his 3rd save. Ricky Horton(0-2)
absorbed the loss. He gave up just 1 run and 4 hits in 7 innings.

Darryl Strawberry hit a homerun at Three Rivers Stadium where the New York
(NL) Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6 to 4.
Obviously without his best stuff, Ed Lynch(1-0) still hung on to pick up the
win. He gave up 4 runs, 8 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings. New York (NL)
out-hit Pittsburgh for the game, 13 hits to 8.
Roger McDowell earned the save, his 3rd. Rick Rhoden(0-1) was hit with the
loss. He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings.
It was another victory for New York (NL) at Three Rivers Stadium. Now their
winning streak stands at 6 games. Chuck Tanner was very irritated after the
