Whitaker made sure the Detroit fans enjoyed themselves. He delivered a single in the 2nd inning, tripled bringing home two baserunners in the 3rd inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 5th inning and slapped a one-base hit in the 7th inning. Detroit had 14 hits for the afternoon while Cleveland had 9. The win went to Tanana(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. The losing pitcher was Jamie Easterly(0-1). He allowed Detroit 4 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings of work. When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Tanana offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
